Amid Kanye West‘s scary hospitalization on Monday night, and with their mom, aunts and grandmother across the country, who was looking after North and Saint West?

A source tells PEOPLE that, despite a turbulent situation for their parents, life had been — and will continue to be — “routine as usual” for 3-year-old North and 11-month-old Saint. According to the source, the children were under the care of nannies even before their dad canceled 21 tour dates to confront health concerns and as their mom Kim Kardashian West traveled to New York City with her sisters and mother to honor her late father Robert Kardashian at the 2016 Angel Ball.

On Monday afternoon, hours before Kim flew back to Los Angeles to be by her husband’s side, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call at about 1:20 p.m. for a disturbance.

As of Tuesday morning, a source previously told PEOPLE that West “has slept intermittently and eaten as well” after entering the hospital “at will under the advice of his physician.”

Another source close to West told PEOPLE Tuesday that the rapper is “just exhausted. He’s been working around the clock on fashion design, both on his own line and the Adidas line. He’s a notorious workaholic, so balancing both that work — which is extremely important to him — and the rigors of the tour every night, it really wore him out.”

Following the news, fans, friends, and celebs have been sending their love and offering words of support.

“I was concerned by what I saw,” friend John Legend said Tuesday in an interview on CBS This Morning, “so hopefully he’s getting some rest and some time to figure things out.”
