There’s still hope for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

“It is tough – there is a lot of stuff that reminds me of her,” Bieber, 21, says of Gomez, 23, on Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “You know, in relationships, you see something on TV and you are like, ‘I remember when we used to watch this or I remember that smell; it reminds me of that time.'”

Then DeGeneres mentions his trip to Bora Bora with model Jayde Pierce, who was with Bieber when nude pictures of him near a pool were taken.

“You told the girl in Bora Bora that stuff,” DeGeneres jokes, getting big laughs from the pop star and her audience. “You said, ‘Oh, me and Selena used to do that … No, no, no – you know I’m just playing with you.”

DeGeneres soon gets serious, asking Bieber if he ever sees himself getting back together with Gomez, a topic he recently touched on in an interview with Access Hollywood.

“Maybe. I mean, we have have a lot of history together, so I’m sure it could possibly happen,” Bieber explains to DeGeneres. “But I think we’re both just on our own journeys of figuring ourselves out. Maybe once [we do that] we can come together and make an awesome duo. Or she’ll find someone awesome and I’ll find someone awesome.”

He continues, “I just want her to be happy, honestly.”

Bieber, whose new album Purpose drops on Nov. 13 (preorder here), also reveals his initial reaction to the photo scandal.

“The first thing I saw that the censored one and it had like the black thing over it,” he says. “And I was like, ‘Oh my goodness. I don’t know what this is going to look like, and then it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. It wasn’t as terrible.”

Stay tuned for more from Bieber and DeGeneres – the singer will appear on her show every day this week!
