In his new single, “Boyfriend,” Justin Bieber pledges to shower the girl he’s wooing with money, swag and fondue. But in real life, the 18-year-old heartthrob admits there’s more to a relationship than material things.

“I think a good boyfriend is just someone who can be honest and loving and supportive,” Bieber, who co-wrote the single with Mike Posner, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive video. “I think honest is one of the most important things, because if you’re not honest in a relationship, it can’t go really anywhere.”

Bieber, who is dating Selena Gomez, also admits: “The last time I ate fondue was like a year ago.”

Boyfriend” is the first single off of Bieber’s new album, Believe, which will be released later this year. And fans can rest assured that the teen singer is just as excited as they are about his new music.

“It’s been pretty crazy these past couple months,” he admits. “What keeps me going is knowing that my album is going to be great and all my fans are going to love it.”
