Minor spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping!

There is a moment in Andy Samberg‘s new comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping that defies comedy expectations and/or R-rated vulgarity — depending on your level of cinematic sensitivity.

The scene in question involves a male superfan of Samberg’s pop star character Conner, pressing his genitals against the window of Conner’s parked limousine and asking for an autograph on his penis. Hilarity further ensues when Conner, in trying to prove a point to his former band mates Lawrence (Akiva Schaffer) and Owen (Jorma Taccone), that he loves all his fans equally and will do anything for them, awkwardly signs this fan’s member.

It is a memorable “performance” to say the least, so when PEOPLE sat down with Sandberg recently, we had to ask him about the identity of this scene-stealer.

“We re not supposed to talk about it,” Samberg responded coyly. “It’s Judd Apatow. If you ask him, he’ll confirm it. But far be it for us to say. It’s his to say.”

The tone of Samberg’s voice seemed to denote a bit of an inside joke but according to Apatow, who served as an executive producer on Popstar, he seems to have nothing to hide.

Why did I do it? I just felt like I had asked so many people to get naked for comedy [i.e. Jason Segel’s full frontal scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall] that in this instance I should give back and show that I can walk the walk,” he told PEOPLE via email. “So to speak. It’s not actually walking.”

Seems we’re all in on the joke now.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is now in theaters.
