Josh Lucas and Jessica Ciencin Henriquez moved back in together last year, despite finalizing their divorce in October 2014
“Their relationship moved really quickly from the start. During their first couple of years they dealt with a lot of difficult things that many couples thankfully never have to go through,” the source tells PEOPLE of the pair getting back together.
“In the last couple of years since they divorced, they’ve proven to each other that the love between them is the real deal. They’re both completely committed to each other and [son] Noah.”
Lucas, 44, and Henriquez, 30, became engaged just six weeks after meeting, and were married in 2012. They got through her cancer diagnosis together, and share one child, son Noah Rev, 3. Their divorce was finalized in October 2014.
At the time, Lucas told PEOPLE, “We have been through a divorce and divorce isn’t something I would wish on my worst enemy, even when in our case we have managed to do it amicably.”
He continued, “We will be connected forever. Fully. We have both worked hard to be great friends, particularly because we have a young child that we both truly love. We are the most connected broken family I have ever seen.”
Not long after calling it quits, however, the pair moved back in together, living in New York City while Henriquez began grad school at Columbia University in 2015. At the time, a source told PEOPLE they were cohabitating because it was the “smartest move for their family.”
The duo even made public appearances together, attending The Peanuts Movie screening with Noah last fall.
“Right now they’re just taking it slow, dating, getting to know each other … Doing everything in reverse seems to work for them,” the insider now tells PEOPLE, calling the re-kindled romance “amazing.”
