JonBenet Fallout

Prosecutor Alex Hunter says the decision not to indict anyone in the murder of JonBenet Ramsey left him with “an aching heart” — and the search for her killer is not over. He also said the girl’s parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, have not been eliminated as suspects in the investigation. Boulder, Colo., Police Chief Mark Beckner said the Ramseys remain “under an umbrella of suspicion.” The two men spoke at a new conference Thursday, a day after Hunter announced that a 13-month grand jury investigation into the 1996 slaying did not yield enough evidence to charge anyone with a crime. Hunter refused to discuss the grand jury’s investigation and the fact that JonBenet’s parents were not called to testify. He also said the case is stronger as a result of the grand jury’s work, though he did acknowledge that “mistakes were made” in the investigation.
