The slick Mad Men star suggested a foot massage and more "fabulosity" on The Big Date

Don’t let the slick hair and sharp suits fool you. A vintage clip (well, less vintage than his hit AMC show, Man Men) of Jon Hamm on a ’90s dating show proves he wasn’t always a super smooth ladies’ man.

The clip shows Hamm, now 43, when he was a 25-year-old waiter and one of three men vying for a date with a pretty brunette named Mary on The Big Date, hosted by Mark. L. Wahlberg.

“I’d start off with some fabulous food, a little fabulous conversation,” says a young Hamm, describing how he’d woo Mary on their first date. “Then a fabulous foot massage for an evening of total fabulosity.”

Something not-so-fabulous? Hamm’s surfer-dude hairstyle. The Mad Men star is nearly unrecognizable! He ends up getting skipped over by not one, but two women on the dating show.

“I’ve gotten vastly older,” Hamm told PEOPLE at Mad Men‘s final season premiere at ArcLight Cinemas in Los Angeles on Wednesday. “We were all looking at pictures of season one going, ‘Oh my God, we were so young!'”

Wonder what he thinks of his old dating show looks?

The final season of Mad Men premieres April 13 (10 p.m. ET) on AMC.
