A Post-Split Look Back at How Johnny Depp & Amber Heard's Relationship Developed
THE END OF A UNION
On Monday, Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp after 15 months of marriage. The 30-year-old actress cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce petition, and is requesting spousal support from Depp, 52, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE. Depp's lawyer, Laura Wasser, filed a response asking the judge to refuse Heard's demand for spousal support. "Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly," a rep for the actor said in a statement to PEOPLE. Less than a week after initiating the divorce, Heard filed a domestic violence restraining order against Depp, submitting a photo of what appears to be a bruise on her right eye as evidence in the claim. As both parties prepare to officially end the high-profile union, we're reflecting on how the relationship first came to fruition.
A PRETTY PAIRING
The 52-year-old actor and the 29-year-old former Guess model met playing love interests in 2011's The Rum Diary. At the time, Depp was with longtime partner Vanessa Paradis while Heard was dating photographer Tasya van Ree. Asked by Empire about the scene that was most fun to shoot, Heard named a few, including "driving down the coast of Puerto Rico in a '58 convertible with Johnny Depp."
The stunning costars kept things friendly at their film's November 2011 London premiere, but by June 2012, both officially split from their significant others.
By April 2013, the two were stepping out together and were spotted holding hands backstage at a Rolling Stones concert in Los Angeles. Their 23-year-age difference ignited a bit of controversy, but Heard later told W magazine, "For better or worse, I’ve always had a love life that seemed particularly salacious to some people."
TOTALLY IN SYNC
"Whenever my old friends meet someone I'm involved with romantically, they immediately warn them: 'She may look refined, but when she's angry, she can go trailer park really fast,'" Texas-born Heard told W magazine of her love life. "But I'd always rather be passionate than bland. I can't imagine living a quiet life." The couple looked anything but bland on a date following the July 2013 Lone Ranger premiere.
TIME TO SPARKLE
Depp and Heard looked happier than ever at The Art of Elysium's 7th Annual Heaven Gala in January 2014. Days later, the starlet was spotted for the first time wearing her engagement ring.

UP FOR GRABS
While the pair usually steered away from PDA, they just couldn't keep their hands off each other at a Spike TV event in May 2014. "We all love who we love; we don't choose it," Heard told Net-A-Porter's The Edit.
During a May 2014 visit to the set of Heard's movie, The Adderall Diaries, Depp planted one on his lady love. "It is really hard when you spend your life living out of a suitcase," Heard told Company magazine. "But it really does weed out superficial people – if someone is still with you after the second movie then they're probably a good one!"
COMING TO GRIPS
Heard also showed her support for her man, visiting him on the Massachusetts set of the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass in June 2014. "She's quite something," Depp told Ode. "She's very special."
SEALED WITH A KISS
What breakup? Rumors of relationship turmoil were squashed when the couple got smoochy at the Jan. 10 Art of Elysium gala in L.A., where Heard was honored. Weeks later, they tied the knot in a Feb. 3 2015 ceremony at their L.A. home, just days ahead of a bigger wedding that will be held on Depp's private island in the Bahamas.
The two tied the knot in front of their families and closest friends on Depp's private island on Feb. 3, 2015.
FORMING A FAMILY
Heard gained two step kids, Lily-Rose and Jack, Depp's children with former partner Vanessa Paradis, when she married the actor. She opened up to Marie Claire about the two teens in 2015, saying, "[It's] an honor and the greatest, most surprising gift I have ever received in my life. I feel new flavors that I didn't know existed. New colors that I didn't know existed have been added to my life. I'm so happy."
DOING GOOD WORK TOGETHER
The two have teamed up to make a difference while they were man and wife. In September 2015, the couple visited Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to distribute hearing aids in partnership with the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
