Ladies, it’s safe to go clubbing again: Notorious serial dater John Mayer is taking a break from dating.

“Yeah, I’m a little freaked out about dating,” he tells Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her talk show to air Tuesday. “So, I’m just going to let time pass and just do my thing.”

Ribbing himself for his list of famous exes, which includes Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly and Jennifer Love Hewitt, the musician, 32, said his “funny track record” with star girlfriends is part of why he’s calling it quits from the game of love – for now.

“For some reason who ever I date has been famous for a while. I can’t sit here and be like, ‘Oh, please let me live my life in private with this famous person who’s been around for 15 years,’ ” he says. “The last thing you want is to see me doing is bashing my head going, ‘I’m shocked, that I’m being followed right now.’ … I’m just going to hunker down. 2010 is a peaceful year for me no matter what I do.”
