John Mayer Performs Raunchy Stand-Up
The singer pokes fun at singer Carrie Underwood – and his own music
Despite his recent ups and downs with Jessica Simpson, John Mayer apparently still has his sense of humor: He performed a stand-up comedy gig Saturday night, which was caught on tape and posted on YouTube.
During the performance, at New York City’s Comedy Cellar, he pokes fun at single life, his own music – and sings a raunchy ballad as part of a joke about Carrie Underwood’s hit “Before He Cheats.” (Click here to watch the video.)
Of Underwood’s song, he says: “It’s basically a woman, for 4½ minutes, just abusing the s— out of a guy.”
In a falsetto, he sings the lyrics about a woman keying her boyfriend’s car with the chorus, “Maybe next time, he’ll think before he cheats.” Jokes Mayer: “Maybe he’s not cheating. Maybe he kind of broke up with you and you’re not hearing it.”
Mayer also laments that as a male songwriter he can’t get as aggressive in songs as female singers can – then makes up a raunchy ditty about sex.
Later, he gets a big laugh when he muses about the life of a single man. “I don’t wash my clothes to make them cleaner, I wash them to make them tighter – that’s what makes me single,” he says, leaning against the basement comedy club’s brick wall. “Guys, I don’t have a washer-dryer, I have a wetter-tightener.”
As for Mayer’s on-again, off-again girlfriend, Simpson, she was spotted without her beau in New York City on Monday night. She and hairstylist pal Ken Paves, along with two female friends, were seen out at restaurant Dos Caminos in Soho.
