After announcing his retirement from acting in late October, Joaquin Phoenix is taking a stab at a music career – and documenting the road to stardom!

The Oscar-nominated actor, 34, has already started filming on a documentary “that will showcase his transition from acting to music,” says a source.

Last week Phoenix, who played Johnny Cash in the biopic Walk the Line and his pal Casey Affleck hit Culver City night spot Carbon for their funk night where Phoenix surprised the crowd with a rap performance which Affleck recorded. The duo later continued filming at Bardot Hollywood where they even chatted up actor Ryan Gosling who was there for his weekly deejay gig.

Phoenix’s rep had no comment.
