A kidney infection forced Jessica Simpson to pull the plug on her nearly sold-out Tuesday show in Providence, R.I. – though she’s expected to return to the stage Wednesday in New Hampshire.
Simpson, 23, was under a doctor’s care, Columbia Records spokeswoman Renee Pfefer tells the Associated Press. Tuesday’s concert was part of the Newlyweds star’s summer tour in support of her album In This Skin.
The Simpson incident follows what seems to be a jinxed summer as far as concert tours are concerned. Christina Aguilera was forced to scrap her 28-city schedule, citing strained vocal cords, while a bad knee prematurely forced Britney Spears out of the last leg of her Onyx Hotel tour.
In addition, Courtney Love’s legal problems led the rocker to nix her own summer tour. And the Lollapalooza music festival tour (featuring Morrissey, Sonic Youth and the Flaming Lips) was canceled due to poor ticket sales.
As for Simpson, her Providence fans were advised to hold on to their tickets, as organizers hope to reschedule the performance as soon as possible, said Heidi Kutsch, a spokesman for the concert’s promoter, Clear Channel Communications.
