Love, near death and everything in between.
It’s been both a beautiful and brutal week of news, judging by the reader reactions to the top stories on PEOPLE.com, with Jessica Simpson and Joan Rivers bookending the highs and lows of the past seven days.

Simply stunning. How else can you describe Jessica Simpson on her wedding day? In this photo, exclusive to PEOPLE, she looked radiant as she and Eric Johnson celebrated “the happiest moment of our lives.”
“I was staring at this shark eyeball-to-eyeball with its teeth on the side of my rib cage.” Yeah, one minute you’re having a lovely ocean swim. The next, you’re getting chomped on like a biscuit by a 7-foot great white shark. Luckily, Steven Robles lived to tell the tale.
The week’s other notable wedding didn’t bring readers as much joy. According to local reports, Joran van der Sloot – the suspect in Natalee Holloway’s disappearance, who is serving time for murder in Peru – got married last week in a Peruvian prison. His new wife is also carrying his child, due in September.
Davion Only’s prayers seemed to be answered in October, when his videotaped plea for a loving foster home, made during a church service, went viral. Sadly, this week we learned that things did not go well after a family promised to take him in.
To Joan Rivers, it was no laughing matter. But PEOPLE readers had a chuckle or two about the comedian’s disastrous interview on CNN, in which she stormed out after taking offense to some of the host’s questions.
