Jessica Alba Angry Over Playboy Cover
The actress takes a legal stand against the men's magazine
Jessica Alba, who graces the cover of Playboy‘s March issue wearing a bikini, isn’t happy to be there.
In a lengthy letter obtained by the Smoking Gun Web site from the legal department of Columbia Pictures (the studio behind Alba’s movie Into the Blue) to the men’s magazine’s legal department, the film company expresses “dismay and anger over the outrageous, unethical behavior” it claims the magazine exercised “to obtain the photograph of Jessica Alba that was used without authorization.”
Alba’s attorney is demanding that Playboy stop circulating the issue and offer the 24-year-old actress a “monetary settlement” for damaging her reputation by implying she’s “nude or semi-nude” in the publication – which she is not. Instead, Alba can be found inside the pages illustrating an article on the 25 sexiest celebrities.
Alba’s legal rep, Brian Wolf, charges that Playboy refused “to take ‘no’ for an answer” after it approached her to pose, and then misrepresented themselves to Columbia Pictures in order to procure a still photo.
The legal letter also blasts Playboy for superimposing its bunny trademark on Alba’s right breast in the cover shot, further implying that she’s naked on the inside.
“Playboy has violated my personal rights and blatantly misled the public who might think I had given them permission to put me on their cover when I didn t,” Alba says in a statement released Wednesday. “I’m simply protecting my personal rights and I hope that they will think twice before they try to do this to someone else.”
Playboy defended itself in a statement, pointing out that Alba is not the only celebrity to appear on the cover but not nude inside.
“Jessica Alba was chosen as the sexiest star of the year by our readers through a poll conducted online,” the statement reads. “Many celebrities have appeared on the cover of Playboy, but not nude, including Christie Brinkley, Paris Hilton, Dolly Parton, Raquel Welch, Claudia Schiffer, Barbra Streisand, Brooke Shields, Goldie Hawn, Jerry Seinfeld and Donald Trump.”
