Jesse Ticks Off Group

The watchdog group Common Cause Minnesota says Gov. Jesse Ventura would violate conflict of interest laws if he referees a wrestling event this weekend. The World Wrestling Federation match is scheduled for Sunday at St. Paul’s Target Center. Common Cause president David Schultz said the governor — a former pro wrestler — has used his “official position to secure benefits for himself which are distinct from benefits available to the general public.” The complaint filed Wednesday also said Ventura’s refereeing job could affect his judgment in the future over matters concerning the Target Center or the WWF. Ventura’s spokesman John Wodele called the complaint “irritating.”
