Jeremy Renner Escapes Bar Brawl in Thailand
But the actor's friend suffered critical stomach and neck injuries
A night of barhopping in Thailand took a dangerous turn for Jeremy Renner and his pals early Wednesday morning.
The Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol star, 40, was hanging out with friends – including Vorasit Issara, general manager of the Sri Panwa Resort – at Rachada Pub in Phuket Town, when Issara reportedly dropped a glass on the floor, leading to an attack from six members of the bar staff.
According to the Phuket Gazette, Issara, 31, was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by Suchart Palae, 26, and attacked on the neck by Nareubate Tednok, 18, with a rotor axe.
Six suspects have been charged with attempted murder, following their confession to attacking Issara and his friends, Phuket City police superintendent Maj. Gen. Chonasit Wattanavrangku said at a press conference following the incident.
Issara remains in the hospital with serious wounds to the stomach and neck, according to the Gazette. He also reportedly suffered bruises to his entire body.
A rep for the Academy Award winner confirms the “vicious attack,” but says her client was not injured or involved.
“He exited as the fight took place,” the rep tells PEOPLE. “He is currently in Manila shooting The Bourne Legacy.”
