Jeremy Renner Confirms Marriage to Sonni Pacheco
The Kill the Messenger star says he's still working hard but fatherhood is a priority
It’s official: Jeremy Renner put a ring on it.
Renner, 43, confirmed his wedded status to Capitol File magazine, noting he’s not spoken about his marriage to actress and model Sonni Pacheco to keep his job as a movie star from getting in the way of his happy home.
“I have tried to protect my family’s privacy, my wife’s privacy. I don’t need her to get hammered with my life,” says Renner, who showed up Tuesday at a Washington, D.C., screening of his latest film, Kill the Messenger, wearing a wedding band.
“Privacy issues are important because I want her to go about her day without being bothered,” Renner, who both stars in and produces Messenger, says.
Becoming a father, he explains, has refocused his priorities a bit, even as he continues a fast pace, now shooting Mission: Impossible 5 alongside Tom Cruise.
“It’s the best thing I have ever done – doing it later on in life,” the Academy Award nominee says of becoming a dad to daughter Ava Berlin, now 17 months, in his 40s. “By then I achieved a lot of things that I wanted to achieve; I’m so blessed for that. Now I can really spend time with the family.”
Time without Ava, he says, makes him miss her all the more. “The only thing I think about when I’m not with my baby is, How do I get to my baby? I need to get to her, and I’m very miserable when I don’t see her. I really love being a father.”
Work still moves him creatively but family now comes first, Renner says.
“The only thing that has changed is my perspective on things,” he says of fatherhood. “I still work, probably even more. It used to be for myself so I’m not old and broke. All these things I still do, but I do it now for the future of my baby, and if it gets in the way of her well-being, then I stop.”
Renner says his daughter is now “at the best age.”
“I can’t wait for her to get older, but I really enjoy her now,” he says. But he warns: “As a father, I’m going to make it very difficult for her to find a man.”
