Life is just one international gala after another for Jennifer Love Hewitt, 23. Last month it was the Oscars in Hollywood — where she wore a strapless, Roberto Cavalli dress — and this month it’s the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo, where she is serving as cohost. (ABC airs the ceremony on April 21.) As for dressing for the first event, the former “Party of Five” star told PEOPLE: “I picked my dress, shoes and jewelry at the last minute. It was all very last minute. And I am always on the worst-dressed list, so it was a big deal for me. I wanted to wear a hack-proof dress. And I had never been to an Oscars anything before, so it was, like, a big deal for me.” Big, yes — but also problematic. “I had an earring emergency,” she admits. “The post on my big diamond flower earring that Van Cleef (& Arpels) let me borrow broke. And so the earring fell off as I went to hug someone hello. The people at my table were like, ‘Uhhh, the Van Cleef fell off, the Van Cleef fell off.’ Here I am thinking that I have to go home and tell my mom we have to sell the house, we have to get rid of the cars. I am never going to be able to go anywhere again. People are going to say, ‘That is the girl who lost the diamond earring.’ It was just going to be horrendous.” Not to worry, however. “We found it. Van Cleef has superheroes who work there, because within probably a minute and a half some guy was there, and he just popped out of nowhere and said, ‘What do we need to fix?’ I said, ‘Well, the post broke.’ And he bent the earring around a little bit and did this and that and it was fixed. It was hysterical.”
