Jennifer Lopez Teases What to Expect from Her Las Vegas Residency
The singer will perform 20 shows starting on June 20, 2016
Lopez, 45, confirmed on Tuesday night’s American Idol that she will begin her own Las Vegas residency on Jan. 20, 2016, at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. She is scheduled to play 20 two-hour shows with the last performance set for June 12 next year.
Speaking to PEOPLE Tuesday night, Lopez said the Las Vegas show would allow her to craft a concert experience that would never have been possible while on tour.
“It’s just the idea of creating the show that I’ve always wanted to create,” she said. “You know, touring is an animal, and to get to be in one place and really build a show exactly how I’ve always imagined – I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life. I’m very excited about it.”
Lopez also said that the show would showcase the many genres she has embraced over the course of her career.
“It’s going to be everything I think the fans have come to know me for on stage. I’ll have dance. I’ll have Latin. I’ll have pop. I’ll have hip-hop. I’ll have all of it,” Lopez explained. “It will be a high-energy amazing show that anybody could go see – my fans and everyone else.”
Lopez’s announcement confirms rumors that have been swirling since late 2014 that she would be doing a long-term Las Vegas show. Britney Spears‘ “Piece of Me” show premiered at the same hotel on Dec. 27, 2013, and its run was extended by three months last week.
