Jennifer Lawrence and her British boyfriend Nicholas Hoult walked the dark gray carpet separately Saturday at the global premiere of X-Men: Days of Future Past in New York City.

But that didn’t stop the actress from paying tribute to her man.

Working with Hoult on the movie, in theaters May 23, was “great! Obviously,” Lawrence told PEOPLE. “He’s a fantastic actor, wonderful costar, great roommate.”

The Oscar-winner, 23, stunned in a shimmery, floor-length blue Jason Wu dress – a nod to her blue-hued mutant character Mystique, perhaps? – while Hoult, 24, suited up and opted for a blue tie as they worked opposite ends of the carpet.

Hoult recently expanded on that sentiment, saying, “It’s fun because in this business you are away from one another for long periods of time, so when you’re on set together it’s a brilliant thing, because you actually get to spend time together.”

Lawrence also raved about working with a cast featuring the likes of Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender, Ellen Page and Halle Berry.

“It was really exciting because this was the best cast ever,” Lawrence said.

A fan favorite, Lawrence – who wore her shorter blonde hair twisted back tightly – interacted with the crowd as they screamed her name over and over from the sidelines. She then walked the carpet, stopping at one point to go straight to a woman in a wheelchair to sign her poster.
