Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner: After 10 years and three kids, what went wrong? Subscribe now for the real story behind the split, only in PEOPLE.
“We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children,” said Garner, 43 and Affleck, 42, in their joint statement to PEOPLE.
Garner, who has been leaning on friends for support, is remaining strong and keeping her focus on the children.
“Her strength is what made her who she is,” a longtime friend of Garner’s told PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “She has risen up in this situation. It’s unbelievable.”
The actress is taking special care of the kids to help them through this difficult time.
“She’s such a good mom and she’s honest with them – she’s not sugarcoating this,” said the friend.
The couple took their three children – Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3 – on a family vacation to the Bahamas to remove them from the spotlight and avoid the public aftermath of their announcement.
Both parents plan to continue living on the same property in the family’s California home, as they plan to share custody and work on adjusting to their new life.
“They will do whatever is needed so their children are happy and well-adjusted,” a source told PEOPLE.
