Could she have been more than just a Friends friend?

Jake Gyllenhaal recently revealed to PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle that “for years,” he had a crush on his The Good Girl costar Jennifer Aniston – well before the two worked together on the 2002 drama.

But what does Aniston actually think of her pal’s admission – many, many years after the fact?

“Well, I just don’t know why we’re finding this out now!” she cracked to Access Hollywood when presented with Gyllenhaal’s mea culpa.

As for whether anything might have happened between the two had she gotten wind earlier, Aniston, 47, quipped of Gyllenhaal, 35, “I don’t know, he likes the older ladies.”

Not only that – “well, he hid it well,” she quipped.

During his chat with Cagle about working with Aniston, Gyllenhaal revealed, “I will say, I had a crush on her for years. And working with her was not easy I was – um, yeah. That’s all I’m going to say. It was lovely. It wasn’t hard, that’s what I would say.”

And it wasn’t just her winning turn on Friends that left the Demolition actor smitten.

“Not so much Friends, but kind of her personality from afar, and movies she was in,” Gyllenhaal explained. “And some of Friends – I’m not a huge Friends fan but who she is.”
