A defiant Jean Kasem broke her silence and released a video statement rejecting claims about her care of husband Casey Kasem, the legendary radio host who is suffering dementia.

“My husband is very happy and comfortable in our family and has told me time and time again that he wished to remain under my care and doesn’t want a conservator,” Jean Kasem tells KING 5 News in Seattle.

The former Cheers actress, who has been married to Casey, 82, for 34 years, spoke out as she was given a California court order temporarily suspending her powers to determine his medical care.

With Kasem’s children from his previous marriage and his own attorney saying Jean won’t let them see him, L.A. Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy expanded the authority of Kasem’s daughter, Kerri Kasem, to determine whether the American Top 40 personality is receiving proper care.

Kerri Kasem has alleged that Jean whisked Casey, her husband of 34 years, out of a Santa Monica, California, care facility in the middle of the night May 7 and transported him to the Seattle area.

In the latest salvo in the bitter long-running family fight, Jean said in the video statement that Kerri and her siblings have made “fraudulent and false accusations of elder abuse (that) were always unfounded and unwarranted.”

“This psychotic post-divorce hostility must cease and desist immediately,” she says. “We have the right to our privacy and dignity and liberty.”
