Jay Mohr has been performing stand-up comedy since he was 16 years old, but his new album, Happy. And a Lot. is a bit of departure: It features material written entirely by Mohr’s wife, Nikki Cox.
The one-hour special, filmed during the Santa Barbara LOL Comedy Festival, is airing on Showtime Comedy, and concerns Mohr and Cox’s seven-year marriage and their children, with occasional detours discussing Liberace, Bon Jovi and Journey. Apparently, Cox, who deals with insomnia, fills notebooks with late-night musings and observations that make it into Mohr’s act. The pair, who met ten years ago and married three years later, have two children and live in L.A.
Best of all, all proceeds from Bandcamp sales of Happy. And a Lot. through the end of December will be donated to WriteGirl, an organization that mentors teenage girls interested in creative writing.
Happy. And a Lot. is airing throughout November and December on various Showtime networks.
