Photo: Michael Conroy/AP Erstwhile Subway pitchman Jared Fogle is said to be recovering from a brutal prison yard beating that’s left the admitted sex offender with facial bruising, a bloodied nose, and neck abrasions, PEOPLE learns. A spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirms the recent attack on Fogle, saying it took place on the grounds surrounding Colorado’s Englewood Prison. Fogle’s pummeling comes just four months into the former sandwich propagandist’s 16-year sentence for possessing child pornography and traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor. According to prison documents, Fogle’s assailant was 60-year-old inmate Steven Nigg. Nigg allegedly knocked Fogle to the ground before unleashing a barrage of punches to the 38-year-old’s face, records show. The onslaught left Fogle’s nose bleeding, his face swollen, and his neck severely scratched. Nigg, however, sustained no injuries while attacking the child sex predator. Fogle’s attacker is in prison on weapons charges, and will be a free man in 2024 – five years before Fogle’s release. Fogle had agreed to plead guilty to the charges last August. As part of the agreement, prosecutors agreed to ask for no more than 12 years in prison while the defense agreed not to ask for less than five years. His sentence was ultimately longer than what prosecutors had asked for. Pratt said 12 years “does not sufficiently account for the defendant’s criminal conduct.” According to the government’s pre-sentencing filing, “Fogle went to great lengths to engage in commercial sex acts with underage minors.” It adds that “he continually communicated with the prostituted minors in his attempts to find even younger children for sex. He specified the ages he wanted, including 14 and 15 year olds.”
