Working with Jake Gyllenhaal would be a big deal for any actor. But for 12-year-old Oona Laurence, who stars alongside the 34-year-old in his transformational boxing film Southpaw, it was a bit daunting.

“I was [intimidated],” she said on Thursday’s Good Morning America, before adding “a little” when Gyllenhaal, who played her father in the film, started shaking his head and smiling. “It was very cool meeting him. It was a little nerve-wracking because he’s like so experienced and he knows so much.”

“That’s old,” joked the actor, who recently said he would love for the role of father to “not be fictional.”

Despite her shyness around an A-lister, Laurence is no newcomer: the youngster won a Tony Award for her role as Matilda Wormwood in Broadway’s Matilda.
