Jake Gyllenhaal: The New Batman?
The bat shoes once occupied by Michael Keaton, George Clooney and Val Kilmer are about to hear the patter of new little feet, only whose will they be?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, some of Hollywood’s hottest hunks are reporting for a casting call this week to test for the title role in the next “Batman” movie, which is scheduled to start shooting in February under the direction of English filmmaker Christopher Nolan (“Memento,” “Insomnia”).
Those reportedly in line to test out their wings: Jake Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale, Joshua Jackson (“Dawson’s Creek”), Cillian Murphy (“28 Days Later”), Henry Cavill (“I Capture the Castle”) and Eion Bailey (HBO’s upcoming feature “And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself”).
The Reporter also says that Hugh Dancy, currently shooting his role as Sir Galahad in Disney’s “King Arthur,” may also try on the cape for a screentest if his schedule permits – and he can lose his Galahad beard.
In other casting news, New York’s Daily News reports that “Mighty Aphrodite” Oscar winner Mira Sorvino, 35, has been tapped to play a former girlfriend – that is correct – of Will (Eric McCormack) on NBC’s “Will & Grace.” The comic twist, says the paper, is that her character, Diane, also dated Grace’s husband, Leo (Harry Connick Jr.).
And on FOX’s “That ’70s Show,” Topher Grace, 25, has received a pay boost to match that of his headline-grabbing costar Ashton Kutcher, reports the New York Post. The paper estimates that both actors will now be receiving $250,000-$300,000 per episode.
Grace, a heartthrob in his own right, is expected to remain with the sitcom though the 2004-05 season.
