The mourning family of Jade Goody is meeting Monday to make arrangements for her funeral April 4. The plans will be guided by the last wishes of he British reality-TV star herself.

Goody, 27, lost her battle with cancer early Sunday – the day the U.K. celebrates as Mother’s Day.

Goody, who first discovered she had cervical cancer in August 2008, was told in February that her condition was terminal. Her final days were followed in press reports read around the world.

For her funeral, it is likely that there will be a procession through two local villages, while the church service will be beamed to TV screens to be watched by crowds outside. Goody hoped it would be a “celebration,” according to her publicist and friend Max Clifford.

Already, her passing has become an occasion for public mourning, with reams of newsprint in the British papers Monday and a growing mound of flowers that has started to accumulate at the gates of the family home. Prayers were said for her at local churches, including St. John the Baptist at nearby Buckhurst Hill, where it is likely her funeral will be held.

She was a “kind of Princess Di from the wrong side of the tracks,” observed actor-director Stephen Fry.
