Italians Object to 'Hannibal'

Local politicians in Florence are appealing to the city’s mayor to stop the filming of a scene from “Hannibal,” the long-awaited sequel to “Silence of the Lambs,” which they say will harm the city’s image. The gruesome murder scene is set to be filmed at the Salon of the Lilies in the city’s 13th century Palazzo Vecchio. The protests might fall on deaf ears. Filming of the sequel, which stars Anthony Hopkins and Julianne Moore, began on Monday, following a warm welcome by the mayor. Filmmakers have already been granted permits to shoot in many historic parts of the Italian city.
