The Internet is standing with Ahmed Mohamed.

On Monday, the ninth grade student from Texas, who has been recognized for his inventions and knack for science, brought a homemade clock to school to show his engineering teacher. When the clock beeped in the middle of English class, his teacher confiscated the creation, mistaking it for a bomb. Later that day, police arrived at his school to detain him, handcuffing him and escorting him out of the building.

The incident has sparked fury, sadness and disappointment across the Internet, even from such public figures as President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg and Aziz Ansari.

“Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great,” the President tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

“Assumptions and fear don’t keep us safe – they hold us back. Ahmed, stay curious and keep building,” Clinton added on Wednesday morning.
