Since Saturday’s PEOPLE news that Hollywood’s hottest couple, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, have split up — just days after canceling their Sept. 14 wedding — friends and extended family members are now chiming in about the turn of events.

The father of Cris Judd, the dancer who was Lopez’s second husband (the couple divorced in July 2002), tells New York’s Daily News that J.Lo should have stayed married to his son. Not that Cris Judd is expecting a come-back call from Lopez.

“He wasn’t ashamed to walk behind her at a movie premiere,” says Larry Judd, whom the Daily News describes as the owner of Eggrolls Are Us. Cris Judd’s “thing,” says his dad, “was to motivate her and to keep her life in perspective.”

But that changed when she began filming the movie “Gigli,” the eventual box-office disaster in which she costarred with Affleck.

“I thought Mr. Affleck would honor a married woman and not just go right into the trailer,” says Larry Judd, who is still bothered by “the way she cast my son aside.”

Lopez, 34, spent the weekend in Miami, swimming during the day and clubbing in South Beach after dinner at the Mandarin Oriental restaurant, not far from her 11-bedroom house. Meanwhile, Affleck, 31, was on the West Coast, but a friend tells the Daily News, “They’ll be back together this week.”

As PEOPLE reported over the weekend, the breakup came in the wake of the couple’s decision last Wednesday to postpone their Sunday wedding in Montecito, Calif., before some 400 guests. The couple blamed the delay on excessive media attention surrounding the event, but reports persisted that Affleck was having second thoughts about the nuptials. A PEOPLE source says it was Affleck who initiated the split.

While it was unclear whether the separation was permanent, Lopez was “devastated,” according to one friend. The star was in tears on Wednesday, sources said, as she called guests telling them of the wedding’s postponement.

Ken Sunshine, Affleck’s spokesman, said he had no knowledge of a split. Lopez’s spokesman Dan Klores said he believed the couple was still together, but had not spoken to Lopez in several days.
