You don’t have to take your curves home, but they can’t stay here.

At least that’s how many users interpreted Instagram’s ban of #curvy.

According to an Instagram spokesperson who talked to Mashable, the ban is yet another result of the site’s attempt to eliminate graphic content. “I can confirm that we did block the hashtag #curvy. It was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity. Please note that the block has nothing to do with the term ‘curvy’ itself,” he told Mashable.

While the social media powerhouse has recently been at the center of efforts to increase plus-size body positivity, with figures like Tess Holliday and Courtney Mina gaining popularity, controversy over the social media site’s nudity policy has also erupted.

Many people were quick to point out that much more overtly pornographically related search terms are still welcome on Instagram.

Unsurprisingly, the ban has induced anger in all corners of the internet.

But the Instagram community is not backing down. Many users have subverted the surprising policy by adopting #curvee.
