CBS News correspondent Kimberly Dozier says she wants to return to Iraq “soon” – but ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff says he’s assuring his family he won’t go back, “for now.”

Dozier, critically injured in a Baghdad car bombing that left two colleagues dead, and Woodruff, gravely wounded on the job in January 2006, were honored by the Radio and Television news Directors Foundation on Thursday night in Washington.

“To all of you in Iraq, I hope to join you – not right away, but sometime soon,” Dozier told the audience. She also told PEOPLE: “I miss the Middle East.”

After her speech, Woodruff gave Dozier a kiss and hugged her.

Woodruff used his speech to assure his wife publicly that he’s less certain about a return.

“She has told me, ‘Please don’t go to Iraq,'” the father of four said. “So, I think for the first time I’m going to tell my wife I’m not going back to Iraq, at least for now.”

Woodruff and wife Lee have documented his recovery in a new book, In an Instant: A Family’s Journey of Love and Healing.
