Indiana Student Takes Great-Grandmother to Prom
Katie Keith’s last prom was in 1940, but that didn’t stop her from breaking it down at the big dance this year.
The 93-year-old woman from Crothersville, Indiana, went as her great-grandson’s date to his prom last weekend, reports WAVE.
“She asked me if I was going to prom and I said no,” Drew Holm told the news station. “She’s like, ‘Why not?’ and I was like, ‘I don’t have anyone to take and I could care less about it.'”
This would not do for Keith, who jokingly suggested that Holm take her to the dance. Her great-grandson took Keith’s suggestion as a serious offer, stopping by her house later with a formal invitation.
“He said, ‘Will you go to prom with me?’ I said, ‘Drew, my goodness, I don’t want to go to the prom with you. Surely you can find a real cute girl to go with you,'” Keith recalled.

But Holm refused to accept his great-grandma’s excuses, insisting that she is the prettiest woman he knows.
Before Keith could put on her dress and corsage, she had to wait for the school’s approval: Holm’s high school only allows people under the age of 21 at prom, but administrators were happy to make an exception.
When prom came along, Holm showed up at Keith’s door with a corsage in hand, and even got her out on the dance floor.

“Everybody got up, you know, and they were doing this shuffle thing,” Keith said, “and Drew said to me, ‘Let’s dance, grandma. Will you dance?’ I said, ‘Sure.’ So him and I got out there and shuffled right along with them.”
The high school junior said he has since received plenty of praise for his choice in date, but insists that’s not why he invited his great-grandma. He appreciated being able to share the moment with her, and believes it will be a hard night to top come next year’s senior prom.
