A bride in India ditched her wedding after finding out her groom was terrible at math.

According to the BBC, Lovely Singh requested that her groom, Ram Baran, solve a simple math problem, asking him to add 15 and 6. When the man replied with the answer 17, the bride called off the ceremony.

Family members from both sides tried to convince Lovely to go through with her big day, but she stood firm, saying she refused to marry a man who was illiterate, according to reports. Police arrived at the event to help mediate, eventually getting the families to give all the wedding gifts back to the guests.

“Just before the marriage ceremony Lovely came to know that Ram Baran is illiterate and she refused to marry,” a police official told the BBC.

Mohar Singh, who arranged the marriage between his daughter Lovely and Baran, said that the groom’s family hid his lack of education. When Lovely found out her groom may not be as smart as he let on, she decided to give him the arithmetic problem as a test.

“Even a first-grader can answer this,” the bride’s father said of the test.

In February, a different Indian bride dumped her groom after the man suffered a seizure on their wedding day. The woman reportedly attempted to marry one of the guests at the ceremony while her original groom was being treated.
