Iman is putting one foot in front of the other as she comes to terms with the loss of her husband.

On Tuesday, David Bowie‘s widow took a stroll in New York City, marking the first time she has been seen in public since Bowie died of cancer on Jan. 10.

Donning a dark ensemble – including sunglasses, a luxurious stole and a large peacoat – the 60-year-old model walked the couple’s dog for a walk near the apartment they shared in the city’s SoHo neighborhood.

Bowie left their home in New York and half of his net worth to his wife of nearly 24 years in his will, documents obtained by PEOPLE in late January revealed.

Iman has quietly grieved the loss of her husband in recent weeks.

“She’s fine. We’re fine. We’re holding up,” Iman’s longtime friend Bethann Hardison told PEOPLE exclusively in January. “It comes in waves, you know. He’s a great loss – not just a loss as an artist, but as a human.”

His loved ones later chose to avoid a public memorial. “The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend,” his family said in a statement last month.

The family also thanked fans, saying, “We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world.”

The next tribute for Bowie will take place at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 15, when Lady Gaga will take center stage to perform the Blackstar singer‘s hits.

According to a statement released by CBS, “the tribute will be a multi-sensory testament to the superstar’s incredible artistry and a reflection of his limitless creativity.”
