"It's such an important day to celebrate with my LGBTQ fans," the rapper exclusively tells PEOPLE
Miami is on her “Team”!
“I’m honored to join my friend Elvis Duran this year at Miami Beach Gay Pride on April 10!” says Azalea, 25. “It’s such an important day to celebrate with my LGBTQ fans, and I can’t wait to see my Azaleans there!”
The rapper will join the Y100 Morning Show host as Duran’s guest of honor on his official radio show float as they lead the parade. Prior to the public event, Duran and Azalea – who has dedicated three days to Pride festivities – will host a VIP fundraiser for the LGBTQ community.
Last year, Azalea pulled out of performing at Pittsburgh Pride after a backlash over years-old tweets that critics found homophobic. The Australian star was quick to issue an apology, saying she meant no harm and deeply regretted “uttering those words.”
However, the musician has been vocal about her support for the LGBTQ community. In 2014, she told The Advocate that she thinks gay rappers will be mainstream in the near future.

“[Homophobia] comes from ignorance and homophobes not being around enough gay people,” she explained. “I don’t get why some straight men are still so scared of gay people. I honestly believe it’s like anything else. People just need to be exposed to it long enough for it to not be scary anymore.”
Following their weekend appearances next month, Azalea will visit Duran at the Y100 studios in Miami to recap the weekend’s events and discuss her forthcoming album Digital Distortion.
