According to a source, Menzel laughed off Travolta's gaffe
In the days since Travolta first stepped in front of a microphone at Sunday’s Oscars and mangled the Frozen star’s name in front of 43 million people, the artist once known as Adele Dazeem has become an Internet phenomenon.
Now, Travolta is speaking about the gaffe for the first time.
“I’ve been beating myself up all day,” the Pulp Fiction star said in a statement released Tuesday. “Then I thought, what would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, let it go, let it go!”
The two-time Oscar nominee added, “Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!”
There no were hard feelings on Menzel’s end: According to a source, the Tony winner wasn’t bothered by her newfound moniker – or the online uproar it sparked. In fact, the source said, “She thought it was funny.”
Menzel was too focused on her Oscars performance to realize what had happened during her introduction.
According to E!, the Frozen star gave Travolta a hug after her performance was over. Later in the ceremony, Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres clearly – and accurately – announced the performer’s name. Twice.
Now that the successful Oscars campaign for Frozen is over, Menzel is returning to her first love: theater. After a brief pit stop Monday night at The Tonight Show, where Menzel performed a lively, unplugged version of "Let It Go," the Rent and Wicked veteran is already back in rehearsals for the new Broadway musical If/Then.
There’s no word yet on whether Menzel has tried out the official Adele Dazeem Name Generator. Not that she really needs to – the world already knows her result.
Now that you’ve seen Menzel sing "Let It Go," check out this amazing rendition from 9-year-old Annelise Forbes.
