"If Holly says it's over, I guess it's over," the Playboy founder laments
Having granted his blessing to girlfriend Holly Madison’s moving out of the Playboy Mansion last month, grand old man Hugh Hefner is now saying he’s “down in the dumps” about their breakup.
“If Holly says it’s over, I guess it’s over,” Hefner, 82, tells the Associated Press about the status of his relationship with the 28-year-old star, who, along with Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt, stars in The Girls Next Door.
“She’s still here in the house,” says Hefner. “Until a few days ago, we were still sharing the same bed.”
The Playboy magazine founder confirms that the split came after he told Madison six months ago that he wasn’t interested in getting married or having kids.
“The fact that she was depressed after that, I didn’t know at all,” says Hef. “That was a revelation in the last days and weeks. Quite frankly, we thought when the time came, we would make a combined statement and we expected that combined statement would be somewhere in the weeks and months ahead.”
Earlier this week, Madison told TMZ she and Hefner are no longer an item, though she’s “still filming stuff together” with Wilkinson and Marquardt for the E! show, which since 2001 has chronicled life in the Playboy Mansion.
For his part, Hefner says he may find new live-in lovers for the coming season.
“It’s now apparent there will be some new faces in my personal life and on the show,” said Hef, who shares his baronial estate in Holmby Hills, Calif., with 19-year-old Playmate twins Karissa and Kristina Shannon, despite their not being his lovers – as of now.
“There’s been moments that I’ve been down in the dumps about all this,” says Hefner, noting that his personal assistant Mary O’Connor “told me to cheer up and pointed out that there are girls lined up outside the front gate. At my age, that’s hard to believe, but it seems to be true.”
