At Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Jennifer Hudson made her big return to the stage with a rousing rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

Hudson’s brave performance following her family tragedy was reminiscent of Whitney Houston’s powerful performance during the Persian Gulf War in 1991 for Super Bowl XXV, also in Tampa.

Houston, backed by an orchestra and donning a patriotic sweat suit and matching athletic headband, gave one of the most iconic interpretations of the National Anthem in history. But does Hudson’s more subdued (she was backed by a recording) and fashionable (she wore skinny jeans and a nautical cropped jacket) rendition give Houston a run for her money? Clips are after the jump.
