"My motive was literally to work with her," the singer tells RollingStone
“I actually asked her to be on the artwork for Beauty Behind the Madness,” he tells RollingStone in its latest cover story. “My motive was literally to work with her.”
And though Hadid, 19, initially turned down the offer, the singer was persistent and sought a “face-to-face” encounter.
Struck by her work ethic and her close relationship with her family (Hadid’s mother is Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster and her sister is supermodel Gigi Hadid), the star (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye) says the relationship “just kind of fell into my lap.”
Now 25, the singer says he “probably would’ve f–––ed it up” if he had met his girlfriend two years ago. “But I’m more – how do I say it? – clear-thinking now.”
The Weeknd also opened up about losing his virginity at 16-years-old to a college student at York University. “I could have been a student at f–––in’ McDonald’s, she was so drunk,” he says. “I was drunk too. It was the worst experience of my life. Losing your virginity to an older woman sounds good, but it was kinda like, ‘Oh s–––, it’s done?'”
