Although Peter Facinelli admits that he and wife Jennie Garth disagree every year when it comes to picking the perfect Christmas tree, the couple have landed upon a wise solution to their woes: They put up two trees.

“My wife wants to do the fake tree because it’s easy but I am so anti fake trees,” Facinelli told PEOPLE at the Tribeca Film Institute s premiere of the Robert DeNiro-Drew Barrymore movie Everybody’s Fine. “In one room we do a nice fake tree, and in the other room I get to have my tree with all the pine needles falling all over the place.”

The Twilight hunk, 36, says that the reason he loves getting a real tree is because it allows him to spend time with his three daughters with Garth, 37: Luca, 12, Lola, 7, and Fiona, 3.

“What’s fun is that I get to go and pick out the tree with the kids, and then it becomes an experience,” he said. “Sometimes I’ll hide behind the tree. I used to pretend I was the talking tree. The kids loved it. I would be like, ‘Hey, pick me – I am the best Christmas tree!’ ”

Even though he picks out the tree, Facinelli says that Christmas would not happen without the help of his wife, perhaps best known for playing Kelly Taylor on the Beverly Hills, 90210– franchise.

“I have no time to go Christmas shopping this year,” he said. “She called me today and said, ‘So, I got the Christmas shopping done for so and so and so and so.’ I’m like, ‘You’re a godsend.’ ”

As for Facinelli’s perfect present, he says that he is asking Santa for nothing this year. “I’m so blessed I couldn’t possibly imagine asking for anything else.”
