All the Celebrities Who've Attended Hillsong Church
The über-popular megachurch, which started in Australia, has attracted the likes of musicians, movie stars, models and professional athletes
Bieber was one of the first celebrities to sing Hillsong's praises. After getting "really depressed on tour," the singer canceled the remaining 14 shows of his 2017 Purpose Tour and leaned on Hillsong's most famous pastor, Carl Lentz — who was reportedly fired from the church in November 2020 for "moral failures" — for support. He's since brought his wife Hailey Baldwin to services, too.
Bieber and Lentz had had a falling out in 2018, according to TMZ.
Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger
After Pratt — who predominantly attends L.A.'s Zoe Church, part of the Hillsong "family" — talked about how church helped him deal with the pressures of fame on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Ellen Page tweeted that he should also address what she called Hillsong's "infamously anti lgbtq" views. Page was referring to a pastor from Hillsong who wrote in a blog post that he believes, "God's word is clear that marriage is between a man and a woman."
Pratt responded on Instagram days later, saying "nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone." He went on to commend the church's openness when he went through his divorce, "despite what the Bible says," and added, "faith is important to me but no church defines me or my life, and I am not a spokesman for any church or any group of people."
During their on-again, off-again relationship, Gomez would attend Hillsong with then-boyfriend Bieber. It's unclear if she's still a member.
Los Angeles Lakers player Chandler is a member of the church and close friends with Carl Lentz. So when Bieber, who was living with Lentz at the time, asked to be baptized in the middle of the night, Lentz called the NBA player to ask if he could use his bathtub. "It was probably one of the most special things I've been a part of," Lentz later told Oprah Winfrey of the experience.
Kylie Jenner, Hailey Baldwin & Kendall Jenner
Baldwin has been a long-time member of Hillsong, with husband Justin, and also a member of Churchome (formerly City Church). Celebrity pals Kylie and Kendall Jenner were also spotted attending Hillsong with Baldwin and Carl Lentz.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has been seen leaving Hillsong services with actor Luka Sabbat and Fai Khadra, brother of twins DJ duo Simi and Haze.
In an additional Kardashian connection, Miami-based minister Rich Wilkerson — who famously performed Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding ceremony— has often delivered sermons as a guest speaker (although he isn't officially connected to the church's team of clergy).
Irving leaned on Carl Lentz to help him talk through wanting to get traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2017, according to TMZ.
Vanessa Hudgens & Austin Butler
The couple, who met in 2005 on the set of High School Musical, attends church services together.
Hudgens opened up to the New York Times about the church, saying that, "They really focus on you having your own personal relationship with Jesus, which is wonderful."
When she was rumored to be dating Bieber in 2017, TMZ said The Edge of Seventeen star was also attending the church.
Another famous name reportedly involved with Hillsong: U2's Bono, who has been vocal about his religious beliefs.
