After a roller-coaster year, actress and singer Hilary Duff is happier than ever. Subscribe now for an inside look at what her life is like now and to learn all about her new favorite costar, only in PEOPLE!

She loves her current healthy figure, but Hilary Duff admits that as a teen, she fell victim to an alarming trend.

“I was too thin,” Duff tells PEOPLE of her 18-year-old self. “That was not a healthy place for me. I was so unhappy. I remember my hands cramping because I wasn’t getting enough nutrients.”

The actress’s “obsession” with her weight came at a time when young stars were under a heightened pressure to be thin. Says Duff, who stars on TV Land’s Younger: “A lot of girls my age were super skinny. I think it’s just as bad now, but it’s more normal. It’s crazy. I can’t be that way. It’s not my normal state.”

Now, the mom of 3-year-old son Luca (she split from Mike Comrie in 2014) is embracing her post-baby body.

“Things don’t bounce back the way they used to, but I don t need to be 110 lbs,” she says. “I’m a 27-year-old mother. I feel fit and strong and happy.”
