She loves her current healthy figure, but Hilary Duff admits that as a teen, she fell victim to an alarming trend. “I was too thin,” Duff tells PEOPLE of her 18-year-old self. “That was not a healthy place for me. I was so unhappy. I remember my hands cramping because I wasn’t getting enough nutrients.” The actress’s “obsession” with her weight came at a time when young stars were under a heightened pressure to be thin. Says Duff, who stars on TV Land’s Younger: “A lot of girls my age were super skinny. I think it’s just as bad now, but it’s more normal. It’s crazy. I can’t be that way. It’s not my normal state.” Now, the mom of 3-year-old son Luca (she split from Mike Comrie in 2014) is embracing her post-baby body. “Things don’t bounce back the way they used to, but I don t need to be 110 lbs,” she says. “I’m a 27-year-old mother. I feel fit and strong and happy.” For more on Hilary Duff, pick up the latest issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday RELATED VIDEO: Hilary’s Dark Glamour
