Harrison Ford is very much on the mend – and on the move!

The Star Wars actor, 72, was spotted driving around Los Angeles last week as he continues to recover from his injuries almost three months after his small plane crashed at Penmar Golf Course.

Ford was at the wheel of a Tesla sports car with an unidentified friend on this particular outing. It’s the first time he’s been photographed in public since the accident.

The actor is generally doing well in his recovery, walking with crutches but in good spirits. He began driving again in late March, shortly after he was released from the hospital.

“Harrison seemed fine and drove himself to Steven Spielberg’s house for a visit. After spending weeks in the hospital, he seemed happy to be back at home,” a source tells PEOPLE.

Since then, the actor has often been seen driving around his L.A. neighborhood. “He makes small errands and visits friends,” the source says.

He hasn’t been spotted at the Santa Monica Airport since the accident, however, the source says.

Ford suffered injuries including a large laceration on his scalp as well as broken bones in the March 5 crash, and he spent almost a month in the hospital.
