Hairdresser: I Stole Kevin Costner's Laptop

A stylist hired for the star's wedding cops a plea bargain

A hairdresser pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of stealing Kevin Costner’s laptop computer, according to Pitkin County, Colo., chief deputy district attorney Gail Nichols.

Pascal Bensimon, 45, the owner of an upscale salon in Aspen, Colo., was hired for guests at Kevin Costner’s 2004 wedding to Christine Baumgartner in Aspen. There, he stole the actor’s computer, which contained pictures of the nuptials.

Bensimon was ordered to pay $1,500 restitution, serve two years of unsupervised probation and perform 25 hours of community service, the Associated Press reports.

“I’m sorry for all of the trouble I’ve caused,” Bensimon quietly told District Court Judge James Boyd on Monday after pleading guilty in a deal with prosecutors. “I want to go forward.”

Judge Boyd told Bensimon he had violated the Costners’ trust. Nichols said the laptop has been held as evidence since it was recovered after the theft.

According to the Rocky Mountain News, Bensimon’s arrest affidavit said that his son called Apple Computer with the laptop’s serial number in an effort to get a new password. A security consultant hired by Costner then contacted the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Bensimon told police he stole the computer because the wedding planner had treated him badly, the Rocky Mountain News reports.

Bensimon’s lawyer, Pamela Mackey (who represented Kobe Bryant during his sexual assault case), told the judge she considered challenging the legality of the search that deputies conducted to get the computer.
