"When you're covered in spit-up, the idea of having someone blow out your hair and putting on a good outfit sounds nice," Paltrow (on MTV's TRL on Sept. 16) told Entertainment Weekly recently. "But I just feel like an impostor going into that world. I have to remind myself that I've got to go be Gwyneth Paltrow."

Paltrow and Jude Law appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show to promote their sci-fi film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow on Aug. 26. When Oprah asked what her next project is, Paltrow responded, "I don't know, and I don't care." Next up for Paltrow: the drama Proof, which hits theaters Dec. 24.

"(My mom and I) are looking at each other going, 'We want to go home and see Apple!,'" said Paltrow (with mother Blythe Danner) on June 18 at the Crystal amp Lucy Awards, where her family (including her late father Bruce, a producer who died in October 2002) was celebrated for their work in show business. It was Paltrow's first time leaving Apple with a non-relative.

Martin and his mates from Coldplay take 11-day-old Apple out for a stroll in London on May 25. He "sings to her all the time," says Paltrow of Martin. "She loves his music. I played it a lot while she was in my belly." A week after Apple's birth, Martin and the band, under the name The Nappies (the British word for diapers), released a music video tribute to his daughter and Paltrow.

The British tabloids reported that Paltrow pushed an empty baby carriage on her May 20 walk near her Knightsbridge neighborhood in London just to give paparazzi a shot of her with the stroller. Paltrow's rep didn't comment. Ellen DeGeneres gave the actress the $3,000 Silver Cross Balmoral pram during a Dec. 4 appearance on her talk show.

"I've done everything careerwise that I wanted to," says Paltrow (with Apple in New York City on June 15). "Now I have the luxury to fully dive into this domestic bliss." Aside from a small cameo as famed singer Peggy Lee in an upcoming biopic of author Truman Capote, Paltrow hasn't signed on to any new projects.

The happy couple leaves a London hospital on May 15, two days after Apple's arrival. "It was a long and hard birth," says Martin of Paltrow's 70 hours of labor. "Nothing is more important to her than being a mother," adds Dr. Marc Engelbert, who consulted with the actress in the early months of her pregnancy.

A pregnant Paltrow hits The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Dec. 4; walks in London Feb. 4; and celebrates at the ShoWest movie convention on March 25 in Las Vegas. "I'm eating everything I'm not supposed to have, like sugar and flour and cheese. I cheat all the time," Paltrow said at the time. Her cravings? Grilled-cheese sandwiches, Chinese take-out and banana toffee pie.

After meeting at a 2002 Coldplay show, Paltrow and Martin (in London on Oct. 29, 2003) became an item. Paltrow took to the road with the singer, following the British band on a six-month world tour in 2003. "He has been a great strength and support system," says a Paltrow pal of Martin, who helped the actress through her grief after her father's death.
