Talks between Bryant Gumbel and CBS about his anchoring its beleaguered morning show have come down to finding a new home for the show, sources have told the New York Post. Gumbel (who’s sitting out his $5-million-plus contract with the network since it canceled his “Public Eye” last August) has told CBS officials he will consider joining “CBS News This Morning,” if they will build a new studio for the show, sources told the Post. “Completing its negotiations for a new $30 million street-level studio on the ground floor of the GM Building in the East Side of Manhattan is now a priority for CBS,” says the paper. Meanwhile, insiders report that Gumbel is seeking an ownership share of “This Morning” — much the same way that Barbara Walters owns “The View” — as an incentive for the former NBC “Today” host to return to morning TV.
