There are wedding dances, and then on a whole different plateau is what Kirk Henning did for his bride, Valerie Tellmann-Henning.

You have to consider that both Kirk and Valerie are professional dancers, and on top of that, the Richmond, Virginia, couple’s wedding reception took place on the very stage on which they had performed together.

With that it mind, it makes sense that the stakes for Henning’s wedding surprise had to be higher. That’s why the groom and his groomsmen performed an epic, eight-minute choreographed routine as a special treat for the bride.

In the video, the group dances its way through “Uptown Funk,” Britney Spears’ “Crazy,” Classified’s “Higher,” Enrique Iglesias’ “Bailando,” Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone,” Brad Paisley’s “The World” and finally “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon, creating a genre-defying mash-up that clearly had the other reception attendees as excited as the bride was.

The video of the dance has since gone viral. Speaking about the routine to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Tellmann-Henning said her husband told her he wasn’t going to perform a dance leading up to the big day on July 25.

“I told him early on in the wedding planning process, ‘Well, I hope you’re working on your groomsmen dance for me,’ ” she said. “But he was so busy with touring and school, he said, ‘Valerie, it’s just not going to happen.’ ”

Henning, meanwhile, had been planning the surprise for four months, even sending out tutorial videos to his groomsmen so they’d get the dance moves right. Clearly, the advanced planning paid off.
