Excuse us, we just have something in both our eyes

What would your last day at the beach look like?

Reddit user Ecost’s post was simple: “My grandma wanted to see the ocean one last time before checking into hospice. Her face says it all.” But the picture, of an elderly woman in a wheelchair on the shoreline of California’s Laguna Beach, wearing an ecstatic expression on her face, has taken over the Internet as the feel-good story of the week.

Further down in the comments, Ecost discussed their decision to keep the woman’s catheter in the picture:

“You know, I thought about it. And I’m handy enough with Photoshop that I could’ve done it myself. But then I decided that removing it would only detract from the picture. She spends her days in a wheel chair with that bag, but something as simple as the ocean still brings her immeasurable joy, and why would I want to paint over that bittersweet reality?”

Ecost also adds that this was the first time their grandmother had visited his aunt in California, where the younger woman lives, making the experience doubly impactful.

With over 2,700 comments on Reddit and over 3.6 million views on imgur – not to mention pickup from a variety of web sites – to say the image resonates with people is something of an understatement.
